Despite nearly 200 years of study, Dupuytren’s Disease continues to frustrate surgeons and therapists. Outcomes range from excellent, which keeps us going, to mediocre, to complete and utter failure which leaves us scratching our heads and wondering if we have any understanding of the disease at all. Defeating the disease through control of cytokines such as TNF and their effect on the myofibroblast probably offers the best chance to ultimately cure the disease. In the meantime, surgeons and therapists will continue to do there best based on well established surgical principles to affect the best outcomes possible for their patients.
