Hands On Orthotics - Static Progressive Orthoses

This pre-conference is presented by the ASHT Education Division Hands On Orthotics Committee. Two static progressive orthoses will be fabricated. The first will improve wrist extension, and the second will provide a hand-based option to improve PIP flexion. Background information will be offered with online resources. A materials list is provided and it is recommended that the participant fabricate along with the instructor on a friend or family member to maximize learning through the fabrication process.

Objective(s):

  • Demonstrate fabrication of static progressive orthoses to improve wrist and hand function.

  • Demonstrate how to modify orthoses based on improvements in motion.

  • Describe indications for static progressive orthoses.
