Michael Kessler, M.D., M.P.H.

Dr. Michael W. Kessler joined the Orthopaedic Department of MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in 2011. Dr. Kessler is an orthopaedist specializing in conditions of the hand, wrist and elbow. Locally, he serves as Chief of the Division of Hand and Elbow Surgery at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. Dr. Kessler fulfills his academic role as an Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Georgetown University School of Medicine and the Residency Program Director for Orthopaedic Surgery. He is the Medical Director of the Certified Hand Therapy program at National Rehabilitation Hospital. He has received the Washingtonian Top Doctor Award each year since 2015. Dr. Kessler attended the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education before graduating from Albany Medical College. Dr. Kessler earned a Master’s in Public Health from the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University. Having completed residency at the North Shore/Long Island Jewish Health System, Dr. Kessler then completed a Hand, Microvascular, and Upper Extremity Surgery Fellowship at the Philadelphia Hand Center and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital where he gained specialized training in the surgical and nonsurgical management of various hand and upper extremity conditions.
